Mid-America Fine Arts is managed and owned by us, Dr.'s Les and Courtney Ruthven. We are by profession psychologists and owners of Preferred Mental Health Management, Inc., a national behavioral health management firm. Our passion, however, is art.

Dear Patrons,

Our personal art collection became a professional gallery in 1984 when we could no longer call it a hobby and we wanted to introduce others to what we enjoyed.

Art and art collecting can be an emotional investment so we haven’t really strayed to far from our profession. It can be therapeutic to those who create it and to those who enjoy looking or collecting.

The art in our gallery represents some of the best known and lesser-known artist of the 19th and 20th centuries. We tend toward the more "traditional" in art because such art ties us to our historical past. Representational works predominate in the collections and there is a strong regionalist presence as well as major schools of American painting.

Our Kansas collection is especially important to us because we feel that to a large extent Kansas artist are overlooked. Kansas has a rich heritage in the visual arts. As a relatively small state in population, Kansas has nurtured artists whose achievements and renown have surpassed many larger states.
